William Ashton Obituary, Death – A Davenport man lost his life in a car crash over the weekend, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, when the Scott Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of 210th Street and Jersey Ridge Road, just a few miles from Davenport Municipal Airport.
According to the initial investigation, the crash involved a 2018 Chevy Silverado traveling east and a 2019 Honda CRV heading west on 210th Street. As the two vehicles approached the intersection, the driver of the Honda, identified as William Ashton of Davenport, attempted to make a left-hand turn but entered the eastbound lane prematurely, leading to what officials described as an “offset head-on collision.”
Emergency responders extricated Ashton from the wrecked Honda and transported him to a local hospital. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Peoria, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Chevy Silverado sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
