Vickie Avant Obituary, Death – Omaha police have identified the woman who was killed in a four-vehicle crash on Dodge Street Wednesday morning. The collision occurred near the University of Nebraska Omaha campus at the intersection of 62nd and Dodge streets around 7 a.m.
Investigators reported that the crash began when 23-year-old Terrell Turner was driving a Ford Mustang westbound on Dodge Street. Turner made two abrupt lane changes and then accelerated rapidly. This maneuver caused the rear of the Mustang to swing out and collide with a Hyundai Tucson driven by 69-year-old Vickie Avant, who was also traveling westbound.
The impact pushed Avant’s Tucson into the eastbound lanes of Dodge Street, where it was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado driven by 41-year-old Robert Lindeman. The collision then involved an eastbound Ford Ranger, which was also hit.
Omaha Fire Department medics pronounced Avant dead at the scene. Lindeman was transported to the University of Nebraska Medical Center with minor abdominal injuries.
The Omaha Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash, and charges are still pending. Dodge Street between Happy Hollow and 63rd Street remained closed until around 11 a.m. while authorities conducted their investigation.
