Tariq Reynolds Obituary, Death – The Des Moines Police Department has identified the man killed in a Sunday shooting as 21-year-old Tariq Reynolds. According to a news release, 19-year-old Martavius Lamon Green has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Reynolds’ death, which occurred in a neighborhood on the city’s south side.

Police reported that Green, originally from Atlanta, Georgia, was a guest at a residence located at 3400 S. Union St. At some point during his visit, Green became involved in an argument that escalated. The police statement mentioned that the dispute turned physical, prompting Reynolds to step in. After leaving the property, Green allegedly returned with a 9mm firearm and shot Reynolds twice in the upper torso, as detailed in court documents.

Officers responding to the incident found a firearm near Green while he was attempting to evade capture. The court documents also noted that Green reportedly admitted that the gun was the same one used to shoot Reynolds. The police were alerted to the shooting around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday. Reynolds was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Green is currently being held in the Polk County Jail without the option of bond, as indicated by jail records. This tragic event marks the eighth homicide in Des Moines for the year 2024.
