Scott Huff Obituary, Death – The family of Scott Huff, a 51-year-old man who died in a fiery crash on Interstate 80, believes he acted to prevent further injuries to others on the road. The crash occurred Friday morning near milepost 107 after a tire blew out on another vehicle, leading a dump truck to swerve, leave the road, and crash. Utah Highway Patrol described the incident as a rare and unexpected event.

Huff’s stepson, Sean Jones, expressed the family’s devastation over the loss. Jones shared that Huff had been a big rig truck driver since the 1990s, a profession he loved for the travel and adventure it offered. Describing Huff as a dedicated family man with a strong work ethic, Jones noted that Huff’s passion for his job even inspired him to get his own commercial driver’s license.

Beyond his work, Huff was known for his love of Halloween, a holiday he enjoyed by handing out candy to kids. The family is particularly saddened by Huff’s absence this coming Halloween, which was just around the corner.

Jones recalled the moments after the crash, explaining that both he and his mother were heartbroken upon hearing the news. They initially hoped it was a miscommunication, as neither could reach Huff by phone.

As a fellow truck driver, Jones explained the importance of considering a “ditch solution,” a mental strategy truckers keep in mind to avoid causing harm to others in case of an accident. He believes Huff deliberately swerved off the road to avoid hitting another car, prioritizing the safety of others even at the risk of his own life.

Understanding that accidents happen, Jones and his family hold no resentment towards the other driver involved. They hope that as people travel during the Labor Day weekend, they will be cautious and aware of the large trucks sharing the road.

In the wake of Huff’s death, his family faces not only emotional pain but also the practical challenges of planning his funeral. Huff was the primary provider for his family, making his loss all the more profound.

Describing Huff as a “wonderful soul,” Jones emphasized the void his death leaves in the lives of those who knew him. The family has started accepting donations to help cover funeral and future expenses. A GoFundMe page has been set up, and donations are also being accepted through Venmo at @grimdemon.
