Robert Leso Obituary, Death – A tragic incident occurred in Farmington, Maine, resulting in the death of an 82-year-old man after he was struck by a tractor-trailer. The victim has been identified as Robert Leso from Chesterville. The accident took place on Monday morning near the U.S. post office located at 196 Main Street.
According to police reports, the collision happened around 10:30 a.m. The driver of the tractor-trailer was traveling north on Main Street and had stopped to let a pedestrian cross the street. After ensuring that there were no other pedestrians in the crosswalk, the driver began to move forward. At that moment, Leso approached the vehicle from the passenger side and walked around the front of the truck, seemingly out of the driver’s line of sight.
As a result, Leso was knocked to the ground and subsequently run over by the front tire of the tractor-trailer. Witnesses to the incident immediately signaled for the driver to stop. Both the driver and bystanders rushed to assist Leso in an attempt to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigating officers noted that, based on their review of traffic camera footage and eyewitness statements, there was no indication of fault on the part of the driver. As the investigation continues, authorities do not expect any charges to be filed related to the accident. The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded to the scene because the tractor-trailer involved was a commercial vehicle.
In light of this incident, Police Chief Kenneth Charles emphasized the importance of cooperation between drivers and pedestrians. The Farmington Police Department released a statement urging both groups to slow down, exercise patience, remain aware of their surroundings, and avoid distractions. They advised that both pedestrians and motorists should make eye contact before proceeding to ensure safety.
Traffic in the area was rerouted for about four hours while investigators worked to gather evidence and clean up the crash site on Main Street.
