Richard Aspinwall Obituary, Death – Richard Aspinwall, the defensive coordinator for Apalachee High School’s football team, was one of four victims killed in a mass shooting at the school on Wednesday. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) identified Aspinwall, aged 39, as one of those fatally shot. According to Apalachee High’s website, Aspinwall was both a math teacher and the defensive coordinator for the school’s football team.

Before joining Apalachee High School, Aspinwall worked as a teacher and coach at Mountain View High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia. In response to his death, the Mountain View High School athletics department expressed their condolences on their Facebook page, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of former Mountain View High School teacher and coach Ricky Aspinwall, who lost his life at Apalachee High School today.” The message extended sympathies to the entire Apalachee High School community.

Attempts to reach Aspinwall’s family and representatives from the Barrow County School District were unsuccessful, as messages were not immediately returned.

In addition to Aspinwall, the GBI confirmed that the victims of the shooting included Christina Irimie, a 53-year-old math teacher, as well as two 14-year-old students, Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo. The shooting, which occurred Wednesday morning, left the school and surrounding community in shock. Authorities reported that 14-year-old Colt Gray was responsible for the attack. When confronted by law enforcement, Gray surrendered and was arrested. He will be facing murder charges.

The GBI emphasized that their investigation was still ongoing as of Wednesday night. Investigators were collecting evidence and working to piece together the events leading up to and during the shooting.

In addition to the four victims who were killed, nine other individuals were injured. This group included eight students and one teacher, all of whom were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. The aftermath of the shooting has left the Apalachee High School community grieving and searching for answers as investigators work to uncover the motives behind this tragic event.
