Ricardo Resendez Jr Obituary, Death – Family and friends of Ricardo “Ricky” Resendez Jr., who was killed in a car crash last Saturday, held a vigil to demand justice. The 28-year-old man was on his way home from work at the airport around 1:30 p.m. when the incident occurred. Houston police reported that Rigo Vivar, driving a Chevy Tahoe, was going the wrong way on Canal Street. Resendez, who was only a block away from his home, was turning onto North Live Oak Street when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vivar, who was later revealed to be a former Precinct 6 deputy, was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle at the time of the accident. He has since been dismissed from his position. However, as of now, no charges have been filed against him, a fact that Resendez’s family hopes will change soon.

Brenda Resendez, the victim’s sister, expressed the family’s frustration with the lack of answers. She stated, “Every day that we don’t have an answer, we don’t get to rest any easier.” She emphasized the family’s hope that the Houston Police Department and investigators are thoroughly handling the case.

On Saturday night, around 50 people gathered in the Second Ward, the neighborhood where Resendez lived, to honor his memory. The vigil was filled with heartfelt tributes and chants of “Justice for Ricky.”

His aunt, fighting back tears, lamented, “He should still be here,” while sharing fond memories of the 28-year-old. Blanca Estela Marquez, Resendez’s mother, expressed her gratitude for the community’s support and their ongoing fight for justice. She hopes this solidarity continues, noting, “It could be another family in the future, and we want to prevent this for everyone.” Marquez underscored the importance of everyone returning home safely to their families.

In a brief encounter with ABC13 days after the crash, Vivar, visibly emotional, offered his apologies to the Resendez family, saying he was deeply sorry for what had happened.
