Randall E. Glass Obituary, Death News – A shooting in Normal, Illinois, early Sunday morning resulted in the death of an 18-year-old individual, who has been identified as Randall E. Glass from Oak Lawn. According to McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder, Glass died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Another 18-year-old male was also injured during the incident and is currently in critical condition. The shooting occurred close to the Illinois State University campus.
Normal Police were in the vicinity of North Main Street around 3:45 a.m., responding to a large party when they heard gunshots. Officers quickly moved to the area of North University Street, where they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot injuries. Both victims were promptly transported to the hospital, where Glass was pronounced dead.
The Illinois State University Police reported that a “pop-up party” of over 1,000 attendees—an event not organized or approved by the university—originated in a park before moving to a gas station. In a statement posted on their Facebook page, ISU Police expressed concerns about such unsanctioned gatherings. They emphasized that while the right to celebrate is respected, large gatherings held without permits on public property or on private property without consent are unacceptable. These events can lead to damage to public and private property, disrupt local businesses and neighborhoods, and deplete community resources. Tragically, this particular gathering resulted in gun violence within the community.
The Normal Police have initiated an investigation into the shooting. They encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at 309-454-9535.
