Phylicia Carson Obituary, Death – A Missouri community is mourning the loss of Phylicia Carson, a 33-year-old police officer and mother of six, who died in a car crash during a pursuit on Saturday. The Osage Beach Police Department identified Carson as the officer killed in the incident.

The tragic events began around 1 a.m. when another officer tried to stop a speeding vehicle on U.S. 54 near Passover Road. Carson joined the pursuit in her own patrol car. According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Carson’s vehicle started to skid, went off the road, and collided with a tree before catching fire. Unfortunately, Carson did not survive the crash.

Shortly after Carson’s crash, the speeding suspect also crashed on State Highway A. The suspect was subsequently arrested at the scene of the second crash. Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Richelle Grosvenor stated that the suspect would face appropriate charges for the incident.

Carson’s death marks the first time in 30 years that the Osage Beach Police Department has lost an officer in the line of duty. Carson had only joined the department in 2023. She leaves behind a grieving family, including her husband and six children.

The tragedy highlights a concerning trend, as traffic-related fatalities among law enforcement officers have risen significantly. According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, there has been a 136% increase in officer fatalities due to traffic incidents while on duty compared to the previous year.

The pursuit and Carson’s death come shortly after the introduction of Missouri’s new Valentine’s law. This legislation could influence the severity of charges faced by the suspect, potentially leading to felony charges that carry sentences ranging from 10 to 30 years, or even life in prison, depending on the circumstances.

Carson’s death has prompted condolences from officials across Missouri, as the community and law enforcement personnel reflect on her sacrifice and the impact of her loss.
