Nicholas Novak Obituary, Death – The Kane County coroner has identified a man who was fatally shot by police last week in Aurora following a pursuit originating from Plano, where he was a suspect in a homicide. The deceased has been named as 36-year-old Nicholas Novak, a resident of Aurora.

The incident, which is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Police, took place on Friday night near the intersection of Eola Road and Ogden Avenue (Route 34) in Aurora’s southeastern area.

The sequence of events began when the Plano police and Kendall County deputies were alerted around 6:45 p.m. to reports of gunfire in their jurisdiction. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a 70-year-old man, identified as Russell Novak, who had sustained gunshot wounds. Believing Nicholas Novak was involved in the shooting, law enforcement initiated a pursuit of his vehicle.

The chase culminated near the intersection of Eola Road and Ogden Avenue, where authorities reportedly confronted the armed suspect. During this encounter, a Plano police officer and a deputy from Kendall County discharged their weapons at Nicholas Novak.

In a poignant revelation, Russell Novak’s ex-wife informed ABC7-Chicago that Nicholas was their son, adding an emotional layer to this tragic incident.
