Michael Lee Peak Obituary, Death – A tragic head-on collision in Hickory, North Carolina, has resulted in the death of a 46-year-old man and left his wife with serious injuries. The accident occurred on the evening of Sunday, October 20, and involved multiple vehicles, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
At approximately 7:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the crash site on NC 127, near Leslie Avenue. Authorities reported that a 2023 Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2021 Hyundai Palisade, which was heading north.
In addition to the two vehicles involved in the head-on collision, a 2023 Kawasaki motorcycle also encountered debris scattered across the road from the crash, causing the motorcycle to overturn. Fortunately, the motorcyclist was not injured in the incident.
Michael Lee Peak, a 46-year-old man who was a passenger in the Hyundai Palisade, sustained critical injuries in the crash. He was airlifted to a nearby medical center but, tragically, was pronounced dead the following day, on Monday, October 21. Peak’s wife, who was driving the Palisade, also suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the same hospital for emergency treatment.
The driver of the Toyota 4Runner, identified as a 51-year-old woman, was also seriously injured in the collision and was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities have indicated that excessive speed played a significant role in causing the crash. As the investigation continues, officials are considering filing charges against the responsible party. The section of NC 127 where the crash occurred was temporarily closed for about two hours to allow law enforcement and emergency responders to investigate the scene and clear the wreckage.
