Louis A. Greenwald Obituary, Death – The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into a crash that took the life of a Florida resident at the intersection of Lake and Carmen roads in Somerset. The incident occurred on a Tuesday afternoon, prompting emergency services to respond at around 2:30 p.m. Upon arriving at the scene, the Sheriff’s deputies began an initial investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
It was found that the accident involved two vehicles: a 2024 Nissan and a 2019 GMC. According to the initial findings, the 2024 Nissan was traveling north along Carmen Road when it failed to yield the right of way to the 2019 GMC, which was driving east on Lake Road. This failure to yield led to a significant collision between the two vehicles.
After the GMC struck the Nissan, it careened off the road and ended up in a nearby cornfield, located northwest of the intersection where the crash took place. Meanwhile, the Nissan came to a halt in the middle of the intersection. Both vehicles sustained considerable damage as a result of the crash.
The drivers involved in the crash were both elderly men. The driver of the GMC, identified as 77-year-old Earl H. Foster from Wilson, was promptly taken to Lockport Memorial Hospital. Foster’s injuries were classified as non-life-threatening, and he was treated for his condition. The response from emergency personnel ensured he received medical attention swiftly.
Unfortunately, the driver of the Nissan, 78-year-old Louis A. Greenwald from Lake Wales, Florida, was not as fortunate. Greenwald sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Given the extent of his condition, he was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center for advanced medical care. Despite efforts by medical professionals, Greenwald ultimately succumbed to his injuries and passed away.
The tragic incident is now under full investigation by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office. Their goal is to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the crash and determine if any further action needs to be taken.
