Kevin Johnson Obituary, Death – Maryland State Police have identified the drivers who died in a five-car crash near Parkton, Baltimore County, on Wednesday, close to the Pennsylvania border.
The crash began when 53-year-old Kevin Johnson, from Ruther Glen, Virginia, lost control of his pickup truck while hauling a trailer. Johnson’s truck crossed into oncoming northbound traffic from the southbound lanes and collided with a mobile crane driven by 61-year-old James Hutson from Ephrata, Pennsylvania. Both Johnson and Hutson were killed in the crash.
As Johnson’s truck veered into the northbound lanes, it struck two other vehicles in addition to the crane, and the trailer it was hauling hit another car. The collision between the pickup truck and the crane sparked a massive fire at the scene.
In addition to the fatalities, four other people were injured in the crash and transported to a hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Their current conditions remain unknown.
The accident forced the closure of both lanes and shoulders of I-83 north at the York Road exit at around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The highway reopened early Thursday morning after the investigation and cleanup were completed. A hazmat team was also dispatched to the scene as a precaution, primarily in case of fuel spills.
