Jordan High School student – A 16-year-old student from Jordan High School has tragically lost his life following a stabbing incident that occurred in a parking lot on Friday evening. The Sandy Police Department has verified that the event transpired in the parking area of the Mountain America Expo Center located on State Street.

Haney indicated that communications have been dispatched to parents to clarify the situation and provide guidance on supporting students through their grief. “Unexpected occurrences such as death can be challenging, and similar to adults, our students process their emotions through grief,” the email stated. “However, it is important to note that our students may not exhibit grief in the same way.”

The email further mentioned that counselors will be available at the school on Saturday to assist both students and teachers who are coping with their grief. Sandy Police are actively investigating the matter, as noted by Haney. With assistance from witnesses, authorities have identified a suspect in the stabbing, who is also a minor and is currently in custody.

Jordan High School will keep its counseling center open throughout Saturday, August 24, to provide support for any students in need.
