Jesse Kendall Obituary, Death – On Monday, a community in Chicago’s northwest suburbs mourned the loss of a teenager who was shot and killed the previous night while en route to a concert at the United Center. The 18-year-old victim was among three individuals targeted during a violent robbery outside the venue. The Elgin School District U-46 confirmed that he was a senior at Elgin High School.
The victim, identified as Jesse Kendall by a family friend who created a GoFundMe page for his family, was heading to a Lil Durk concert when the incident occurred on Sunday evening. Kendall and two other teenagers were shot in the 100 block of North Wolcott Avenue, close to Maypole Avenue, which is approximately two blocks away from the United Center.
According to police reports, the group was approached by unknown assailants who opened fire on them. Kendall sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, while a 15-year-old boy was hit in the hand, and a bullet grazed his abdomen. Additionally, a 19-year-old man was struck in the rib area. All three victims were rushed to Stroger Hospital of Cook County for treatment.
Reports from CBS News Chicago indicate that Kendall succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old victim was reported to be in good condition, and the 19-year-old was listed in critical condition.
In a statement, the Elgin School District expressed its sorrow over Kendall’s death, stating, “We are deeply saddened to confirm the passing of one of our Elgin High School students following a tragic incident over the weekend. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the student’s family, friends, and all those affected by this loss.” The district also announced that grief counselors would be available to any students in need of support following this tragedy.
As of late Monday, the Chicago Police Department had not provided further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting, and no suspects were reported to be in custody. The community continues to grieve the loss of a promising young life and seeks answers in the wake of this heartbreaking event.
