The victim, 21-year-old Jerrico Lucas Huerena, died at the scene after experiencing a loss of control while riding his motorcycle on Interstate 64, specifically near the westbound exit for Staples Mill Road.
According to a statement from the Virginia State Police, Huerena was riding a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 400 when the incident occurred. As he attempted to pass a 2018 BMW M4 in the left lane, he struck the rear of the BMW. This collision caused Huerena to lose control of his motorcycle, resulting in it colliding with the guardrail located on the left shoulder of the highway.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but unfortunately, Huerena succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. Notably, he was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, which may have provided some level of protection. The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old man from Henrico, was unharmed in the incident and remained at the scene following the crash.
