James Fowler Obituary, Death – On Wednesday, September 3, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop F began an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred on LA Hwy 130 near Turner Neal Road. The incident resulted in the death of 20-year-old Ethan Cottingham from Winnsboro.

According to the initial findings, 69-year-old James Fowler was driving a 1998 Mack dump truck westbound on LA Hwy 130, while Cottingham was heading east in a 2022 Ford F-150. For reasons that are still under investigation, Fowler’s truck drifted left across the centerline and into the path of Cottingham’s Ford. The two vehicles collided head-on in the eastbound lane.

Cottingham, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fowler, who was wearing his seatbelt, emerged from the crash unharmed. Although there is no indication that impairment was a factor, routine toxicology tests will be conducted as part of the investigation.

The crash is still under review, and Troopers urge drivers to make responsible choices behind the wheel. They emphasize the importance of avoiding driving under the influence, staying alert, and following all traffic laws, including the use of seatbelts. Such precautions can significantly impact the outcome of an accident, potentially saving lives.
