Harold Cool Sr Obituary, Death – The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office reported that a rural Fairmont man, 92-year-old Harold “Boyd” Cool Sr., tragically died in a combine and field fire on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 11:05 a.m. when the 911 center received a call about a large fire near the intersection of County Road B and County Road 11.
Emergency responders from the Fairmont Fire Department, along with assistance from the McCool Junction Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the fire crews found a cornfield and combine engulfed in flames at 2400 County Road 11. While firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze, they discovered the combine’s operator, Cool, had died inside the machine.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a mechanical issue with the combine, though the exact cause is still under review. The Fillmore County Sheriff’s Office and Fairmont Fire Department are conducting the investigation with support from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Cool’s death has left the local community grieving, as he was a long-time resident and farmer in the area. The investigation is ongoing to determine the specific circumstances that led to the fire and his tragic death.
