Hamid Shabuddin Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the passenger who died in a head-on collision on Route 23 in Riverdale on Tuesday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when Riverdale Police responded to reports of a crash on Route 23 North. According to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, the collision involved a 2005 Toyota Camry and a 2021 Ford F-150.
The passenger in the Camry, identified as 55-year-old Hamid Shabuddin from Paterson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Camry was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson for treatment. Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford was taken to Riverdale Police headquarters before being sent to Chilton Hospital.
Following the accident, Paterson Councilman Shahin Khalique expressed his condolences on Facebook, writing, “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you, our beloved brother Hamid Shabuddin tragically passed away last night in a road accident on Route 23 in Riverdale. We ask everyone to please pray for his departed soul.” Khalique also shared a Launch Good fundraiser aimed at supporting Shabuddin’s wife and daughter.
According to details on the fundraising website, Shabuddin was en route to work for a night shift with a coworker at the time of the accident. He, along with his wife and daughter, had recently moved to the U.S. from South Africa in search of safety and a better future. The family was just beginning to rebuild their lives after facing significant challenges.
As of Thursday afternoon, the fundraiser had raised over $13,000 to assist Shabuddin’s family during this difficult time.
As of now, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the incident. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Riverdale Police Department, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
