The Washington State Patrol and Thurston County Sheriff’s Office provided details about the tragic incident.
The event unfolded around 4 p.m. on Saturday, as reported by the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office. The Seattle woman, who was reportedly seeking fentanyl from residents in the east Lacey area, was asked to leave by one of them. In response, she allegedly accelerated her vehicle towards the individual who asked her to leave.
Deputies arrived at the scene and observed the woman driving erratically and recklessly through oncoming traffic on Pacific Avenue Southeast. Despite being instructed to pull over, she refused to stop, prompting a pursuit by deputies. Olympia police also intervened by deploying spike strips in an attempt to slow down the vehicle, but the woman continued to drive dangerously.
Troopers indicated that the woman was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Pacific Avenue when the collision occurred. Three individuals, who had just turned from northbound Fones Road onto eastbound Pacific Avenue, were involved in the crash. The Seattle woman’s vehicle collided head-on with theirs.
The crash resulted in injuries to all three occupants of the car that was hit. They were transported to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia for medical treatment. Tragically, one of the passengers, identified as 70-year-old Gina C. Munna from Georgia, later succumbed to her injuries.
Following the crash, the Seattle woman was taken into custody and faces several charges, including second-degree murder, vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony eluding, felony hit and run, and driving with a suspended license.
