The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner’s Office has ruled that Salguero’s cause of death was drowning.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, Salguero’s children have launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising funds to cover the expenses associated with their father’s funeral. In a heartfelt message shared on the fundraising page, Salguero’s daughter, America Oyuela, expressed the profound sorrow her family is experiencing. “While my siblings and I are grateful to have survived, the pain of losing him is overwhelming,” she wrote. Oyuela also noted that their grief is compounded by the loss of their mother, Ilia Verde, who passed away five years prior during the holiday season.
On the day of the incident, authorities received multiple reports regarding the overturned 25-foot boat around 1 p.m. Upon arrival, rescuers discovered five individuals, including a child, clinging to the capsized vessel. Fortunately, all five survivors were successfully brought back to shore by approximately 2:30 p.m.
