Eric Aguilar Obituary, Death – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a fatal solo vehicle crash that occurred on the night of September 14. The crash involved a 16-year-old driver from San Simeon. The young driver was identified as Eric Aguilar, who was driving his father’s 2019 Ford F-150 truck.
According to the CHP, Aguilar left his home after 8 p.m. on September 14. His family was unaware of his destination and began searching for him and the vehicle when he did not return. They were unable to find either during their search.
The following morning, at approximately 6:30 a.m. on September 15, a 9-1-1 call reported a vehicle off the side of State Route 1, north of Burton Drive in Cambria. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find Aguilar’s truck approximately 100 feet down an embankment. The vehicle had left the roadway and struck several trees, causing extensive damage and fatal injuries to Aguilar. The truck was not visible from the road.
The CHP believes that speed was a contributing factor in the crash, though it is not yet clear whether alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving played a role.
The Templeton CHP office is seeking witnesses to the crash and encourages anyone with information to contact them. For business hours, the CHP Templeton office can be reached at (805) 400-6720. Outside of business hours, the San Luis Obispo CHP Communications Center is available at (805) 593-3333.
