Emily Gold Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified Shirin Connor Furutan, a 17-year-old student from Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga, as the teenager who died by suicide on a Southern California bridge on Thursday. Furutan’s death, which occurred on the 210 Freeway overpass at Haven Avenue, was confirmed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. He was pronounced dead at around 1:30 a.m.

This tragedy marks the second suicide from the same high school within two weeks. Another 17-year-old student, Emily Gold, was found dead near the same overpass on September 13.

In response to the loss, Chaffey Joint Union High School District Superintendent Dr. Mathew Holton expressed his condolences: “We can’t begin to express the depth of our grief over the heartbreaking loss of another student from Los Osos High School… We stand united in supporting our community through this difficult time.” While officials have not connected the two deaths, their proximity and timing have raised concerns.

Furutan, originally from Trencin, Slovakia, had an obituary asking for donations to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in lieu of flowers. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page was set up to support Emily Gold’s family with funeral expenses.

These deaths coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month. A 24-hour suicide and crisis hotline is available by dialing 988 for anyone in need of help.
