Devonte Eugene Scott Obituary, Death – Authorities have identified the man who died following what is believed to be an attempted robbery of an armored truck. According to the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Stoney Creek Village shopping center located at 6307 Burlington Road in Whitsett. Deputies were dispatched to the location after receiving reports of a robbery involving a Brink’s truck.

While en route, deputies were informed that a shooting had also taken place. Upon arriving, they discovered 26-year-old Devonte Eugene Scott from Albemarle, who had been fatally wounded by gunfire.

The sheriff’s office has indicated that this event was a singular occurrence and not part of a broader pattern of violence.

A witness who was present at the scene shared her experience with FOX8. She recounted hearing gunshots and observing individuals fleeing for safety. “I was terrified to approach the area,” said the woman, who had been on her way to Food Lion to purchase ice cream for her children. “We chose to move to this neighborhood because we believed it was secure, but now we see that it’s not.”

The witness had been parked approximately 60 feet from the ATM when the gunshots rang out. She recounted that she exited her vehicle while on the phone with a 911 operator and saw the victim on the ground, moving slightly.
