Darya J. Foster Obituary, Death – A fatal accident on Interstate 80 in Gary claimed the life of a woman from Merrillville, Indiana, early on Saturday, Sept. 7, following a collision between her vehicle and a box truck. According to the Indiana State Police’s Lowell Post, the crash occurred around 3:50 a.m. near the 8.4-mile marker, located east of Burr Street and west of Grant Street in the eastbound lanes of I-80.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the accident involved a silver Hyundai Santa Fe and a white Lazy Boy box truck. It was reported that the Hyundai, driven by 25-year-old Darya J. Foster, was traveling at an extremely high speed when it rear-ended the box truck in the right center lane of the highway. The force of the collision caused the box truck to lose control, veer into the center median wall, and knock over a light pole. It then crossed all lanes of traffic before ultimately crashing into a ditch on the right side of the road.

The driver of the Hyundai was ejected from her vehicle upon impact and was declared dead at the scene. Her car continued moving eastward for about a quarter of a mile before it came to an uncontrolled stop. Foster’s identity was confirmed by the Lake County Coroner’s Office after notifying her family of the tragic incident.

The driver and passenger of the box truck were taken to Methodist Northlake Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Due to the severity of the crash, authorities had to close sections of the roadway for several hours to conduct a crash reconstruction and clean up the extensive crash scene.

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by high-speed driving and the devastating consequences it can have for those involved.
