Callie Pounders Obituary, Death – Callie Pounders, a 17-year-old senior at Corinth High School, tragically passed away in a car accident on Monday. The accident details were not immediately disclosed, but Corinth High School Principal John Barnett shared the heartbreaking news on social media. He expressed deep sadness at the loss and extended condolences to Callie’s family and friends, emphasizing the community’s grief. Barnett also announced that counselors would be available at the school to support students and staff throughout the week, urging the community to come together during this difficult time.

Callie Pounders was a beloved student and a standout athlete, particularly known for her exceptional contributions to Corinth High School’s sports teams. She played a pivotal role in the school’s softball team, helping lead them to a 24-6 record and a state championship the previous season. Callie’s accomplishments were impressive; she achieved her 200th strikeout in May during the 2024 season and had even received a scholarship offer to Northwest Mississippi Community College. Her talents extended beyond softball, as she was also involved in volleyball and powerlifting, earning numerous accolades in each.

In addition to her athletic prowess, Callie was a dedicated leader and active member of the school community. She served as president of the Class of 2025, was named the C-Club sweetheart during the 2024 Corinth Homecoming, and competed in various athletic events as a team captain. Her peers regarded her as a dependable and caring leader, often described as the “mother hen” of her teams, always offering encouragement and support. Callie valued teamwork, service, and leadership, and she strived to represent Corinth and Corinth High School with integrity.

Callie’s obituary paints a picture of a kind-hearted, compassionate individual who touched the lives of many. She was deeply spiritual, drawing strength from her faith in God, and she lived by the principles outlined in her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 and Zephaniah 3:17. A memorial service to celebrate Callie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 1:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church. Following the service, the Pounders family will host a reception at The Standard in Corinth, where friends and family can gather and share memories of Callie.

Callie is survived by her parents, Mary Elizabeth and Garett Pounders, her grandparents, Nan Franks Curtis, Lynn Pounders (Lamar Latch), Tony Pounders, and several great-grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins, all of whom she cherished deeply. She was preceded in death by several family members, including her grandfather, Nickey Dean Curtis, and her great-grandparents.

Honorary pallbearers at Callie’s memorial service will include members of the Corinth High School Class of 2025, the First Presbyterian Youth Group, and her teammates, all of whom were close to Callie during her life. In lieu of flowers, the Pounders family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Corinth School District Foundation for the “Callie Pounders Scholarship,” which will honor Callie’s legacy and support future students.
