Bryant Carter Obituary, Death – An Ohio news reporter was shot early Monday morning in an incident classified by police as domestic violence. Winnie Dortch, a reporter for CBS affiliate WOIO, was shot just before 8 a.m.
According to reports from the station, a caller notified authorities about an argument between two individuals in the Clifton Boulevard area of Lakewood. As police were en route to the scene, the caller then reported hearing gunshots.
Upon arrival, officers from the Lakewood Police Department found a man and a woman on the sidewalk of Chase Avenue. The man, identified later as 34-year-old Bryant Carter from Bedford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Winnie Dortch was quickly transported to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she underwent surgery later that morning. Her family informed WOIO that the surgery was successful.
The station also reported that detectives are investigating the events leading up to the shooting, including the nature of the relationship between Dortch and Carter. Although police confirmed that the two were familiar with each other, no further details have been released at this time.
WOIO News Director Brian Sinclair expressed the station’s concern in a post on their website, stating, “This morning, our friend and colleague Winnie Dortch was the victim of a brutal domestic violence attack. She was immediately rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery for her injuries. Our prayers are with her, her young daughter, and the many other victims of domestic violence in our community.”
