The accident took place around 3:10 p.m. along Interstate 77 near Langtree Road.
According to authorities, a 2013 Nissan Altima traveling northbound crashed into a barrier on the highway. Following the collision with the barrier, the driver of the Altima attempted to turn around in the toll lane, leading to a collision with a 2021 KTM motorcycle. Shortly after, a northbound 2016 Nissan Sentra also collided with the motorcycle, ejecting its driver, 61-year-old Arthur Godfrey Beland Jr. from Yadkinville.
Tragically, Beland died at the scene from his injuries.
The driver of the Nissan Altima and a passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities are continuing their investigation and have indicated that charges are expected to be filed.
