Arianna Mulligan Obituary, Death – The Beaufort County Coroner’s Office has identified the 17-year-old girl killed in a shooting at a Burton apartment complex on Sunday night. Arianna Mulligan, from Beaufort, was one of three minors shot during the incident in the parking lot of the Magnolia Park Apartments.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m., and deputies from Beaufort County responded to multiple reports of gunfire at the complex, which is located off Laurel Bay Road. In the parking lot, police found three juveniles who had been shot. According to Master Sgt. Danny Allen, a department spokesperson, it is unclear if the shooting was a drive-by, but there may have been multiple shooters involved.
Mulligan was initially taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). During the flight, she went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 12:18 a.m. Monday. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday at MUSC. The coroner, David Ott, has not disclosed the number of gunshot wounds Mulligan sustained.
As of Monday morning, no suspects had been publicly identified, and there were no updates available on the condition of the other two shooting victims. This shooting is believed to be the 16th homicide in Beaufort County this year, with current figures potentially surpassing the previous year’s total, which was marked by significant gun violence in the Hilton Head Island area.
The shooting in Burton happened about six hours before another shooting occurred in northern Beaufort County, approximately 10 miles north. Around 4:20 a.m., a home on Community Center Road was hit by multiple bullets, but no injuries were reported. Investigators have not yet determined if the two incidents are related.
Anyone with information about either shooting is urged to contact Master Sgt. Duncan at 843-255-3418 or to submit tips online at bcso.net.
