Andrew Hayen Obituary, Death – A 17-year-old male from Cox’s Creek tragically lost his life in a vehicular collision on the Bluegrass Parkway in Nelson County on Friday evening. According to a news release from the Kentucky State Police, a trooper encountered the two-vehicle accident near the 13 mile-marker on the Bluegrass Parkway at approximately 5:45 p.m.
Preliminary investigations by state police suggest that the teenager was operating a 2016 Ford Fusion in a westbound direction when he crossed the median and collided with a 2016 Cadillac Escalade traveling eastbound.
The victim has been identified as Andrew Hayen by Nelson County Coroner Danielle Chladek, who confirmed that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Escalade, 41-year-old Patrick Reed from Bardstown, along with two passengers, was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital. Authorities indicated that their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The cause of Hayen’s crossing into the path of the oncoming Escalade remains unknown, as stated by the police.
A section of the Bluegrass Parkway was closed for several hours to facilitate the investigation by state police, as reported in the news release.
