Amari Justin Young Obituary, Death – An officer-involved shooting in Auburn is being investigated by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The shooting, which occurred late Monday night, resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man.
The deceased has been identified as Amari Justin Young, 21, from Opelika. He was pronounced dead at 10:21 PM CT. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery is conducting a postmortem examination. The scene of the incident, The Magnolia at Auburn apartment complex, had a white sheet covering a third-floor balcony where the shooting took place.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed early Tuesday morning that the death resulted from an officer-involved shooting with the Auburn Police Department. The officer involved in the shooting was unharmed. Additional details from the SBI are anticipated later on Tuesday, but as of Tuesday morning, the Auburn Police Department had not released a statement.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Monday, September 2nd. An anonymous resident reported hearing a loud knocking noise and later observed police at the building.
The balcony where the shooting occurred is now covered by a white sheet and surrounded by yellow crime scene tape as investigators collect evidence.
The general manager of the apartment complex stressed that the safety of residents is their primary concern and promised that more information will be provided to the community as it becomes available.
