Adam J. Flores, Deanna M. Flores Obituary, Death – Two Maine residents, Adam J. Flores, 61, and Deanna M. Flores, 42, were tragically killed in a pedestrian-train collision in Liberal, Kansas, on Sunday night. The incident occurred around 8:05 p.m. near the intersection of S. Western Avenue and W. Pancake Boulevard, where US-54 highway passes through the southwest part of the city.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Adam Flores was pushing Deanna, who was in a wheelchair, across active Union Pacific Railroad tracks. At the time, the crossing arms were lowered, and warning signals were active, indicating an oncoming train. Despite these warnings, both victims continued across the tracks and were struck by the train. Sadly, they were pronounced dead at the scene.
No injuries were reported among those on the train. The tragic incident remains under investigation, but it highlights the dangers of disregarding railroad crossing signals.
