Jose Luna-Altamirano Obituary, Death – The Jasper County Coroner’s Office has identified the bicyclist who tragically lost his life in a collision in Hardeeville on Saturday night. Coroner Willie P. Aiken reported that the incident took place around 7 p.m. on Church Road.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Jose Luna-Altamirano, was riding his bicycle eastbound when he was struck from behind by a white Chevrolet pickup truck. Luna-Altamirano was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Investigations by the South Carolina Highway Patrol revealed that Luna-Altamirano’s bicycle lacked essential safety features, such as lights and reflectors, which could have improved his visibility to drivers.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston to determine the cause of death more conclusively.
The Jasper County Coroner’s Office is collaborating with the South Carolina Highway Patrol as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
