Gary DeLeo Obituary, Death – Stamford Police have identified 64-year-old Gary DeLeo as the man tragically killed on Wednesday after being struck by a front-end loader at a landscape supply business on Magee Avenue. DeLeo, a Stamford resident, was assisting a customer at the rear of the property when the incident occurred, according to police.
Gary’s brother, David DeLeo, the owner of D&D Industries, said the accident happened around 8:15 a.m. while employees from American Mobile Concrete were loading their truck. The front-end loader, operated by a 24-year-old local resident, was in use during this time. The driver, who was unharmed, spoke with officers on-site.
Gary DeLeo was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. David DeLeo explained he was working in the front of the property on a repair when his brother went to the back, noting that the morning sun glare may have played a role, as his brother likely did not see the loader approaching.
The Stamford Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad and OSHA are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. Sgt. Jeffrey Booth stated that OSHA will lead the investigation, with Stamford Police providing support until a conclusive report is completed.
