Cari Coates Obituary, Death – Authorities are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred on South Wilcox Drive in Kingsport on Friday, resulting in the death of a woman. Officers from the Kingsport Police Department (KPD) responded to the incident in the 100 block of South Wilcox Drive shortly before 3 p.m.
The investigation revealed that a 2018 Toyota 4Runner was traveling southbound when it was struck on the passenger side by a 2011 Honda CRV. According to KPD, the Honda had exited a nearby gas station and entered the traffic on South Wilcox Drive, where it collided with the Toyota. The impact was severe enough to cause the Toyota to overturn.
Neither the driver nor the passenger in the Toyota were wearing seatbelts, and both were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. The driver, identified as Cari Coates, was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital, while the ejected passenger sustained serious injuries and was also hospitalized.
The Honda’s driver was unharmed in the accident. However, a juvenile passenger in the Honda sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by KPD.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing as authorities continue to examine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
