Rebecca Geiger Obituary, Death – The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that one of the victims in a tragic shooting incident was a teacher at Westside High School.
Early on Monday morning, just before 3 a.m., deputies were dispatched to respond to a domestic violence situation near the intersection of 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway. The confrontation resulted in two fatalities.
According to Sarpy County Sheriff Jeff Davis, a 911 call was made from within the home, reporting that a father had shot the mother and was still armed. Officers were informed that deputies had previously visited the residence about a month prior due to mental health concerns.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies encountered gunfire directed at them from within the house. In response, one of the deputies returned fire. Once they managed to enter the home, they discovered the man deceased but attempted life-saving measures, which were unfortunately unsuccessful.
The deceased woman was identified as 45-year-old Rebecca Geiger, a teacher at Westside High School. In a statement, the district highlighted Geiger’s warmth and kindness, noting that her positive impact was felt throughout the entire team. “She cared deeply for her students, ensuring they felt a sense of belonging, and excelled at doing so,” Westside Community Schools remarked.
Sheriff Davis reported that five deputies were present at the scene and have since been placed on administrative leave. As part of standard procedure, a grand jury will be convened to investigate the shooting.
The deputies involved were equipped with body-worn cameras, and authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from both inside and outside the residence. It remains uncertain whether the man died by suicide or as a result of the deputy’s return fire. Fortunately, there were no other reported injuries related to the incident.
