David E. Wagner Obituary, Death – On the evening of October 23, 2024, the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on County Road 21, north of County Road G in Putnam County, Ohio. The collision involved a 2006 Pontiac Torrent driven by 45-year-old Thomas S. Elkins and a 2008 Honda Shadow motorcycle operated by 34-year-old David E. Wagner. Both men are residents of Continental, Ohio.
According to investigators, Elkins was traveling southbound and attempted a left turn into a private drive on County Road 21, where he collided with Wagner’s northbound motorcycle. Elkins sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Continental EMS. Wagner, however, was initially taken to Putnam County Ambulatory Care and later flown to Mercy Health – St. Vincent Medical Center by Life Flight, where he passed away on October 24.
Authorities suspect that speed may have contributed to the accident. They also noted that Elkins was not using a properly adjusted safety restraint, while Wagner was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol, assisted by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Continental Fire Department, Continental EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight, and Meyer’s Towing, is continuing to investigate the incident. As a reminder, the Ohio State Highway Patrol urges motorists to use properly adjusted safety restraints and encourages motorcyclists to wear helmets for safety.
