Martel Gibson, Shundra Chestnut Obituary, Death – A tragic shooting during a trail ride in Holmes County, Mississippi, resulted in three deaths and left eight others injured late Saturday night. The incident took place around midnight on October 19, along Highway 17 North, approximately five miles from Lexington.

Holmes County Sheriff Willie March stated that a group of people had gathered for a trail ride following Holmes County Consolidated School’s homecoming festivities. An argument between several young men escalated into violence, leading to the fatal shooting.

The three victims who lost their lives have been identified as 25-year-old Martel Gibson, of Durant; 19-year-old Shundra Chestnut, of Kosciusko; and 19-year-old John Jenkins, also of Durant. In addition to the fatalities, eight others were injured in the shooting.

Several of the injured were airlifted to a hospital in Jackson for treatment, while others were transported by ambulance. The condition of the injured victims has not been disclosed.

Law enforcement, including the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI), is actively searching for the suspects involved in the shooting. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting is ongoing.
