Douglas M. Lodge Obituary, Death – A St. Louis man tragically lost his life early Friday morning in a vehicle accident on Interstate 70, as confirmed by Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn. The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Douglas M. Lodge, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash while receiving treatment at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
The incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2024. Lodge was driving his passenger car when he struck a guardrail, resulting in his vehicle becoming disabled in the left lane of the eastbound side at the 18.2-mile marker, close to Troy. Emergency services were alerted shortly after the initial collision.
As Illinois State Police Troopers were en route to the scene, Lodge’s vehicle was struck by a tractor-trailer at approximately 3:32 a.m. Following the impact, Lodge was transported to Anderson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel at 4:56 a.m.
According to the coroner’s office, preliminary findings attribute Lodge’s cause of death to blunt head trauma, though the final determination is pending the completion of all reports, including routine toxicology tests. The driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the second collision sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and is currently cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Authorities from the Illinois State Police, including the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, are leading the investigation in collaboration with the Madison County Coroner’s Office.
