Makhai Ramon Martin Obituary, Death – The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public regarding a shooting incident that took place in Lutcher on Tuesday evening. The shooting was reported around 8:40 p.m. in the vicinity of the 2100 block of Highway 44.
Initially, deputies received a report indicating that a man had been shot and was being transported to a local hospital. Shortly after, another individual contacted authorities to report that a different man had also been shot in the same area.
Upon their arrival, deputies discovered a teenager who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 19-year-old Makhai Ramon Martin. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
In the course of the investigation, the sheriff’s office located a vehicle connected to the shooting. The car, a silver Nissan Altima, was found on the Westbank side of the Veterans Memorial Bridge, and it bore visible signs of gunfire damage.
Authorities reported that four individuals exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. Despite a thorough search of the area near the bridge, deputies were unable to locate any of the suspects.
