Michael Gholson Obituary, Death – The Hopewell Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man died from injuries sustained in a shooting on High Avenue in late September. Michael Gholson, 63, of Hopewell, passed away on October 9 from gunshot wounds he received on September 22.
On that night, officers responded to a report of multiple shots fired in the 1200 block of High Avenue around midnight. Upon arriving, they found shell casings in the street. Shortly afterward, police were notified that a man, later identified as Gholson, had walked into an emergency room with life-threatening injuries.
At the same time, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of East Broadway, where they found another man, 67-year-old Reginald Wyche, also from Hopewell, lying in a hallway with a gunshot wound. Wyche’s injury was not considered life-threatening, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Both Gholson and Wyche were later determined to be victims of the same shooting on High Avenue. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact Lead Detective Shawn Grant at the Hopewell Criminal Investigations Unit.
The investigation remains ongoing as police work to piece together the events of that night.
