Vonquae Johnson Obituary, Death – Nashville police have identified the victim of a shooting near Tennessee State University (TSU) during homecoming celebrations, though the motive behind the incident remains unclear. The Metro Nashville Police Department reported that 24-year-old Vonquae Johnson died on Sunday, following the Saturday shooting, which also injured nine others, including bystanders.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of Jefferson Street and 27th Avenue North. All victims were transported to local hospitals, with five taken by the Nashville Fire Department and five others arriving by private vehicles. Three of the injured were juveniles. According to reports, two of the victims believed to have been involved in the shooting refused to cooperate with authorities.
The incident unfolded during TSU’s homecoming festivities, which included a football game against Eastern Illinois University at Nissan Stadium. Despite a significant law enforcement presence at the event, violence still erupted. Metro Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron expressed frustration with the situation, stating, “This type of gun violence has got to stop. We didn’t expect this to happen here with all the law enforcement and safety people here. There were police officers and firefighters everywhere.”
