David Schutt Obituary, Death – A road rage incident on I-75 northbound culminated in a tragic multi-vehicle collision that resulted in one fatality late Tuesday afternoon. According to the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the incident began when the driver of a Kia Soul abruptly stopped in front of a Freightliner truck on the interstate. This forced the semi-truck driver to come to a halt as well.
After stopping, the Kia driver exited the vehicle to confront the Freightliner driver, who chose to remain inside his truck. In the midst of this confrontation, a Chrysler Pacifica, operated by 44-year-old David Schutt from Lima, collided with the Freightliner.
Tragically, Schutt sustained severe injuries from the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators revealed that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which likely contributed to the severity of his injuries. Following the crash, the driver of the Kia Soul fled the scene but was later apprehended by an OSHP trooper from the Lima Patrol Post.
Both the drivers of the Kia Soul and the Freightliner reported no injuries. The OSHP is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, with multiple agencies providing assistance at the scene. These included the OSHP Crash Reconstruction Unit, Wapakoneta Fire Department, Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Auglaize County Prosecutor’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Auglaize County Coroner.
The authorities are working to gather more information about the events leading up to the fatal collision, particularly regarding the road rage incident that initiated the sequence of events. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with aggressive driving behaviors and the potentially deadly consequences they can lead to on the road.
