Mary Ward Obituary, Death – The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has identified the body of Mary Ward, which was found at her home on Melrose Street in Belfast last Tuesday. Authorities believe Ward was last seen alive six days earlier, on Wednesday, September 25, and are urging anyone who had contact with her around that time to come forward with information.

Chief Superintendent Lindsay Fisher expressed deep concern over Ward’s death, noting that she is the fourth woman to be murdered in Northern Ireland within a six-week span. Fisher described the situation as “absolutely appalling,” emphasizing the devastating impact these violent acts have had on the families involved. She remarked, “Four families have been shattered forever by meaningless violence.”

In light of the case, the PSNI has referred it to the Office of the Police Ombudsman to review the force’s prior interactions with Ward. While there is no indication of police misconduct, the PSNI expressed concern over their organizational response to the case, prompting the referral.

Detective Chief Inspector Foreman, who is leading the major investigation team, extended condolences to Ward’s loved ones, acknowledging the immense grief they are experiencing. He noted that specially trained Family Liaison Officers are working closely with the family to provide support during this difficult time.

The investigation into Ward’s death is ongoing, with police continuing to gather information to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
