Jan Tanui, Hannah Tanui Obituary, Death – The Wichita Police Department has identified the two individuals who lost their lives in a tragic murder-suicide that occurred on Sunday. The victims are 21-year-old Hannah Tanui and 26-year-old Jan Tanui, both residents of Wichita.

The incident began when officers from the Patrol East Bureau were alerted around 3:40 a.m. by a person reporting that a man had forcibly entered their home located in the 800 block of South Edgemoor while armed with a handgun.

According to police reports, the suspect was inside the residence with his ex-wife and was making suicidal remarks, raising concerns for the safety of everyone involved.

Upon receiving the call, officers quickly arrived at the scene and attempted to make contact with those inside the home, but their efforts were met with silence and no response. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Wichita Police Department activated its SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to establish communication with the individuals inside.

Later in the morning, SWAT team members made the decision to enter the residence. Once inside, they discovered both the suspect and the victim deceased, each having suffered from “non-survivable gunshot wounds.” The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing as authorities work to piece together the events that led to this devastating situation.
