Prabhjit Klair Obituary, Death – Delaware State Police have identified Prabhjit Klair, a 72-year-old resident of Newark, as the pedestrian killed in a crash on Friday evening near Newark. The fatal accident took place on October 4, 2024, around 6:49 p.m. on Corner Ketch Road, just south of Karrington Drive in North Star.
According to the police report, Klair had been standing on the southbound shoulder of Corner Ketch Road before attempting to cross the road. He began walking eastward, outside of a designated crosswalk, and stepped into the path of an oncoming vehicle, a Subaru Outback traveling southbound. As Klair crossed into the southbound lane, he reportedly “fell into the lane” just before being struck by the SUV.
Emergency services arrived at the scene, but sadly, Klair was pronounced dead due to the injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the Subaru, a 38-year-old man from Wilmington, was not injured in the crash.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating the incident to gather more information about what led to the crash. No charges have been filed at this point, and authorities have not released any additional details about the ongoing investigation.
This tragic accident highlights the dangers of crossing roads without using designated crosswalks, especially on busy or poorly lit streets. As the investigation continues, police will work to determine the exact sequence of events that led to Klair’s death and whether any contributing factors, such as road conditions or visibility, played a role in the crash.
