According to police reports, the victim, identified as 24-year-old Austin Stanek from Island Lake, was walking alongside a group of people in the 4300-block of Roberts Road when he was struck by a white SUV. The impact was severe, and Stanek was left on the roadway.
At the scene of the accident, investigators discovered debris that belonged to the vehicle that hit Stanek, which has since been recovered. However, as of Thursday, authorities have not taken anyone into custody in connection with the incident.
