Melissa Neisler Lawrence Obituary, Death – Hurricane Helene has resulted in a tragic incident in Cleveland County, claiming the life of one individual. On Friday morning, shortly after 10 a.m., a tree fell on a man and a woman walking along North Gaston Street, leading to the death of the woman and injuries to the man, as stated in a news release from the Kings Mountain Police Department.
When emergency responders, including police and fire personnel, arrived at the scene, they discovered Paul Eugene Miller, a resident of Kings Mountain, trapped beneath the fallen tree. The Kings Mountain Fire Department worked tirelessly to extricate Miller from the wreckage. Unfortunately, they also found a second person who was unable to survive the incident.
The deceased woman has been identified as 63-year-old Melissa Neisler Lawrence, also from Kings Mountain. Following the incident, Miller was transported to Atrium Health in Shelby for treatment.
Chief Gerald Childress reported that Miller sustained multiple fractures, although his condition remained uncertain as of Saturday. The community is mourning the loss and grappling with the impacts of the severe weather brought by Hurricane Helene.
