Austin Carter Obituary, Death – A tragic event unfolded near the Indiana border when a bicyclist, identified as 30-year-old Austin Carter from Elkhart, Indiana, was struck and killed by a vehicle. The incident occurred last night, shortly before 9 p.m., on U.S. 12, close to Garver Lake Road, according to reports from WZZM13.

Police Chief Douglas Westrick from the Ontwa Township – Edwardsburg Police Department explained that Carter was riding east when a vehicle, also heading east, collided with him. The vehicle was driven by a 74-year-old man from Edwardsburg. After the collision, Carter was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately did not survive due to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle emerged from the incident unscathed.

Investigators have indicated that factors such as Carter wearing dark clothing and the lack of reflectors or lights on his bicycle may have contributed to the accident. Reports from WNDU revealed that Carter was struck from behind, which implies that the driver may not have seen him in time.

The police are reaching out to the community for any further information related to the crash and encourage anyone with details to contact the Ontwa Township – Edwardsburg Police Department at 269-663-8444. The investigation is being supported by the Edwardsburg Fire Department, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police as they strive to gather a comprehensive understanding of this unfortunate incident.
