Froylan Garcia Obituary, Death – A tragic mass shooting occurred on Chicago’s Southwest Side Saturday night, leaving one person dead and six others critically wounded. The incident took place shortly after 10 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Spaulding Avenue, during a prayer vigil held in the front yard of a residence.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the victims were gathered for the vigil when a jeep pulled up to the location. Someone exited the vehicle and opened fire, hitting multiple people in the group. Following the shooting, the victims were able to transport themselves to Mt. Sinai Hospital for treatment.

One of the victims, a 32-year-old man identified as Froylan Garcia, was shot multiple times in his body. He arrived at the hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries a short time later, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Six others sustained injuries during the attack. A 31-year-old man was shot in his right thigh and is reported to be in fair condition. A 51-year-old man was struck in the rear and is also listed in fair condition. A 35-year-old man sustained a graze wound to the top of his head, while a 39-year-old man was hit in his left leg and right hand; both are in fair condition. A 48-year-old man was shot in his right calf, and another man in his 30s was struck twice in his left leg, shoulder, and hand. Both of these victims are also reported to be in fair condition.

In the aftermath of the shooting, the candles from the vigil remained lit while police secured the scene and placed dozens of evidence markers across the area. The solemn atmosphere was disrupted by the chaos and grief following the violence.

Street Pastor Donovan Price, who was present at the scene, described the situation as heartbreaking. “It’s a dangerous weekend, a rough weekend in Chicago, and now we have families crying, lots of trauma on the scene, tumultuous scene going on after the shooting,” he said, capturing the devastating emotional toll of the event.

As of Sunday, no arrests have been made, and no suspects are in custody. Chicago police detectives from the area are actively investigating the shooting, trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding the violent attack and searching for leads that could lead to the shooter’s identification and capture.

This incident is just one of many shootings in Chicago, a city grappling with ongoing gun violence. The community remains shaken by the tragedy, and the investigation continues as authorities work to provide answers and justice for the victims and their families.
